Probiotics have a long history of use for the treatment of gastrointestinal ills. Over the past two decades, however, their use for other applications has come to the forefront – essentially due to the expanded research base on this class of tools and advances in technology that have allowed much greater insight as to how these agents work in the body.
This webinar will discuss the mechanisms by which probiotics can improve immune system function and highlight examples of specific probiotics that can be used to both prevent, and treat, a range of infectious conditions.
Some prebiotics also have research data demonstrating their capacity to enhance immunity. The research on these prebiotics, and how they can be utilised in clinical practice, will also be covered.
Key Take Home Messages:
Probiotics are an under-utilised range of tools for enhancing immune function.
Some specific probiotic strains are more effective than others for decreasing infection risk.
Some prebiotics have been shown to enhance non-specific immunity and decrease risk of respiratory tract infections.
